Academic Decathlon

MHS has a new activity this year, Academic Decathlon. Students compete against students from other schools and are ranked by their G.P.A. On Saturday December 6, Marsing students competed in the first event of the year. Husky students took home 5 medals. They were:

Katie Huffman, Bronze English Language and Literature, Scholastic Division

John Heidt, Bronze Social Sciences, Varsity Division

Andre Heidt, Bronze Social Sciences, Scholastic Division

Seleste Estrada, Bronze Art, Scholastic Division and Gold Language and Literature, Scholastic Division.

Congratulations to them and coach Ms. Freeman!

Super students

Many people, both in the school and out have made a point to tell me what great kids we have at Marsing High School. Students that go out of their way to hold a door open for someone, picking up some trash that the wind has blown when no one is looking, helping a fellow student understand a math problem, being courteous to athletes from other schools during a competition, and the list can go on and on. If you have had a sighting of a super student, please make an entry here and tell others about him or her. We have a lot to brag about at Marsing, and our students are at the head of the pack!

Lock down drill

On Nov. 21, the high school did a lock down drill in conjunction with the Canyon and Owyhee County Sheriffs Dept. A lock down is when students are kept in their classroom with a teacher for protection. There was no danger at any time to staff or students. The Canyon County Sheriff's Dept was invited to bring their K-9 unit to the school and do a random search. No contraband was found. Marsing School District will use this as a means of keeping students and staff safe now and in the future.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher conferences were held on Oct. 29,30. While we had about 49% of our parents attend, we would like to increase that number. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help make conferences better. Thanks. The next parent/teacher conferences will be held March 18,19 at the high school. If you want to schedule an individual meeting with a teacher(s), please call the school and the staff will be happy to meet with you.
